Tú Textiles – Beauty, ethics and quality

I went to the launch of the Beijing based design company Tú Textiles, producers of fine quality, organic fabrics with Chinese patterns. Founders Rebecca and Jill show-cased their range with cushions and they intend to expand their product range with other home décor products.

As I entered the apartment in the Upper East area of the Capital, a delicious aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls and coffee immediately transported me to the dream home that everybody wants to live in! It was beautifully decorated, as if taken from a glossy magazine, with fresh colors, clean lines and modern furniture, and at the same time, it kept some traditional Chinese elements.

The founders and designers with Rebecca from Australia, and American-born Jill have a passion for beautiful design, Chinese culture and travel. In their quest and difficulty to find good quality fabrics in Beijing that reflected their vision, they decided to create their own, and so Tú Textiles was born. Their passion for exploring design through Chinese culture through textiles results in an exceptional line of fabrics that pay tribute to the incredibly long and rich history of Chinese culture and design. Inspired from architectural details and cultural symbols, their patterns are rendered in modern, energetic colours and sophisticated, organic cottons.

Tú Textiles also have an ethical philosophy behind their eco-friendly production: supporting and encouraging a shift in how textiles are produced is their small way of making the world cleaner and healthier for everybody. They employ the latest digital printing methods to apply their designs to their GOTS-certified* cottons, using water-based inks, which are much friendlier to the environment. The cushions are tailored in a workshop in Beijing, paying attention to quality, detail and showing social responsibility to their employees.
