Virtuoso is a leading consortium of the world’s top travel agents and this award honors destination partners who are outstanding in their mission to create sustainable travel experiences.

Sustainable travel has been part of our mission since WildChina was born on the sacred slopes of Mount Kailash 18 years ago. We’re proud of the green practices we have in place and continue to seek new and innovative ways to showcase and protect China’s heritage, both natural and human.
Since last year’s nomination, we’ve continued to design itineraries that show our commitment to sustainable travel in China. Within this last year, we launched our Into Sichuan’s Wild: China Panda Tour and Hoh Xil: Lord of Ten Thousand Mountains journey. These itineraries center around the preservation of China’s most precious wildlife.

At every turn, we educate our guests about minimizing negative impacts on the environment. In the case of visiting wildlife or precious ecosystems, we love going the extra mile. When we go into land reserves like Laohegou, we employ conservationists to educate our clients on every aspect of preserving the giant panda and its habitat. On the Tibetan Plateau, we work with local Tibetans who show us how to interact with the wildlife and ecosystems in the UNESCO Natural Heritage Site of Hoh Xil.

Our vision of sustainable travel extends not just to our natural heritage, but our culture heritage as well. Throughout China, we support local artisans and their traditional crafts. In Guizhou, we work with tie dye artisans and in Yunnan, we work with farmers making typical food staples like rushan cheese.
