Applications have opened for the WildChina Explorer Grant 2016 and this year we have upped our game to make the competition more exciting than ever before. We’ve added more prizes and more countries to explore.
Established in 2011, the WildChina Explorer Grant was created to inspire young people to push the boundaries of exploration. Since its creation, we’ve supported expeditions throughout China like the retracing of little-known ancient salt routes in Qinghai and a search for rare, alpine lotus flowers in Xinjiang. Last year’s winner, filmmaker and photographer, Ricky Qi is filming a documentary on the Mosuo people of Lugu Lake, the last matriarchal society in China.
This year, for the first time we are inviting submissions for projects beyond China. 2015 has been a monumental year for us and we broke our own boundaries by venturing beyond China’s borders. We created luxury, experiential tours in Laos, Bhutan and Myanmar – and more destinations will be added in 2016. We want young adventurers to join us on this exciting journey.
There are more prizes too. Not only are we offering one explorer $5000USD to make an impact through exploration but we have partnered with the UK’s Royal Photographic Society to offer an award for the Best Photograph submitted as part of an application. TOMS Shoes and Gregory Mountain Products have also come on board with prizes for the top runners in the People’s Choice global voting campaign.
Applications are being accepted until February 17th 2016.
