Mei Zhang talks to renowned archaeologist Zhang Jianlin, author of The Land of Secrets – In Search of the Vanished Guge Civilization and a distinguished Professor at Northwest University in Xi’an. He shares his archaeological discoveries at Guge with us to help us explore this mysterious 700-year-old Tibetan kingdom through its legends, relics and ruins.

Zhang Jianlin graduated from Northwest University in Xi’an in 1982 with a degree in archeology. He has engaged in Tibetan archaeology and Sui and Tang archaeology for more than 30 years. He has worked on Tibetan cultural relics in Shaanxi Province and has presided over many archeological investigations, including excavations of the former kingdom of Guge, the Torin Monastery, the Sakya Monastery in Tibet, and Tangling archaeological sites in Shaanxi.
