An urbanist, architect, and founder of Land+Civilization Compositions, Jason Hilgefort has spent over two decades exploring how cities are formed at the intersection of design, culture, and infrastructure. After studying urban planning at the University of Cincinnati and architecture at the University of British Columbia, he worked across the globe — from New York and Mumbai to Rotterdam and Shenzhen — collaborating with visionary thinkers and the teams at Maxwan A+U and ZUS.
Jason became the first Europan 11 winner based in Asia and has led award-winning urban projects and competitions across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. His work has been exhibited in Venice, São Paulo, Seoul, and Istanbul, and he has delivered lectures at leading institutions including Harvard GSD, TU Delft, and the University of Hong Kong, where he currently serves as an Adjunct Professor.
In addition to co-founding the experimental Aformal Academy and the Institute for Autonomous Urbanism, Jason has written for Volume, Domus, and The Architectural Review, using storytelling to push the boundaries of how cities are understood. His projects bridge research and design, offering immersive, place-based experiences that reimagine urban life in China and beyond.
